Rascal PitFix

Child with Pit

The Rascal Charities' PitFix program was developed to help decrease the number of Pit Bull-type dogs that enter shelters, as sadly many face euthanasia due to overcrowding and low adoption rates. The goals of this program are:

  • Provide spay/neuter programs to reduce the number of unwanted litters
  • Provide vaccine and preventive care to decrease the risk of preventable conditions, such as parvovirus and heartworm disease
  • Assist with medical and surgical care to reduce the risk of surrender due to cost

The Pit Fix program is funded by donations, grants and fundraisers. While most of our Pit Fix programs require proof of financial need, there are some opportunities which are open to all Pit Bull-type dogs. Proof of low income can be one the following:

  • Section 8 housing voucher
  • Schedule letter from Ohio Works First
  • Ohio Medicaid card
  • Letter from Veteran Benefits Administration acknowledging service-related disability
  • Ohio Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card, also called the Direction Card, for supplemental nutrition assistance program, SNAP (previously referred to as “food stamps”)
  • WIC card (Women Infants and Children nutrition program)
  • Benefit letter documenting Supplemental Security Income
  • Benefit letter documenting assistance from Social Security Disability
  • Tax return showing owner’s family income does not exceed 150% of the federal poverty guideline.

Happy Pit
